Zeno's paradoxes

The story of zeno

Zeno of Elea was born around 490-485 BC. He followed Parmenides and wrote a

book defending one of his theories. It was said by Aristotle that Zeno was the first to use

dialectic, a method later used by Socrates.

Zenos paradoxes were used to challenge peoples beliefs by showing them what

they know as true is impossible. His famous paradoxes are the Dichotomy, the Archilles

and the Tortoise, the arrow and the Stadium. Greek mathematicians, who didnt have a real concept of infinity, didnt

understand Zenos paradoxes. Aristotle discarded them as falacies without showing why

he did so. The paradoxes were hidden away in the Mathematical closet for the next 2500

years. During that time they were just thought of as novelties of philosophy. The

paradoxes have confused mathematicians for thousands of years. They have led to

curiosity and aggravation that has led to many discoveries. The paradoxes have mostly led

to people studying geometry dealing with distance and infinity. Zenos paradoxes have

have helped us throughout many years. They show us that even the things that we know

and believe are absolutely true, like motion, can be shown impossible.

I believe that Zenos paradoxes disprove motion, time, and infinity. When they are

disproved, it makes us think more which leads to more discoveries. The paradoxes have

helped us a lot. Even up to today people are still trying to figure out ways to solve how

someone could disprove motion, if it is so obviously true that it exists.
